Does a correction change my ownership in any way?

No. A correction amends how the register describes the owner or the property never who owns it. Ownership changes are transfers or succession registrations, which are separate procedures.

Can I sell my property while the deed has a name mismatch?

In practice, no. The buyer’s bank and the transfer checks compare the deed against your passport, and a mismatch stops the file. Complete the correction before the transfer is lodged and if a sale is planned, run the character-for-character comparison now.

My new passport spells my name differently. Which version does the DLD use?

The current passport governs. The register is amended to match the live document exactly, including middle names and spacing.

I changed my name after marriage. What do I need?

The current passport in the new name and the marriage certificate connecting the names, attested for use in the UAE if issued abroad. The register is updated to the new legal name and the deed reissued.

Do I have to come to Dubai for a correction?

No. A representative holding a notarised power of attorney that expressly covers property dealings can file the amendment and receive the reissued electronic deed.

Will I get a new paper deed?

The corrected deed is issued electronically from the amended register entry; physical paper deeds are generally not produced. The electronic certificate is the current deed.

The deed of a deceased owner has an error. Can it be corrected?

Yes — the estate applies, with the succession certificate or court order establishing who acts for it, and the correction is made to the record as it stands before any succession transfer is registered.

What if the correction itself is filed with a mistake?

The register records what is requested, so an error in the request lands on the new deed and needs a second amendment. This is the strongest argument for preparing the file against the passport character for character before submission.
